"they don't think its necessary" I disagree. they want to help but they lack funding and resources to treat every sick cat on the island. the people that live there are old.
I think the cats are still, of course, wild. They should be treated like wild animals at a reserve. At a reserve if an animal is sick or injured it’s taken care of. I don’t, however, think the cats should be spayed and neutered. The economy, for one, relies on the cats. The cats can still live healthy lives and have kittens, it just requires effort. I believe that would be a win-win situation.
what happens to the roads with all these cats? Are there alot of roadkill? I'd imagine so but in a perfect world these cats could take care of rat problems in the west 🙂
The cats will breed out the problems eventually, but they will have strife, just like any other species. and there will always be problems and illnesses among the community. what needs to happen is selective spay/nurturing as i have seen over decades inbreeding in cats leads to many eyes and lung problems. Humans can speed up this recovery so that the cats on the island are happy and healthy for the generations in the future. I don't know why Japan has trouble understanding this isn't a natural progression for the cats, and human involvement that made this island, and steps need to be taken to boost the civilization they started. It is in no way a natural occurrence for them to be there.

There's a lot of people that want to neuter humans….yeah to save them. I take it you see yourself as human.
So you want to neuter the cat population and uh…..save them. Maybe you should find a hobby or a boyfriend?
But I thought cats knew how to take care of themselves,as far as cleanliness and hygeine is concerned.
Thank you for sharing. I'd always wondered whether there were any TNR type programs on these islands.
