Yes. You're right. That is a proper way to use such a thing. Or when one is away for a day or two and cannot be home to feed the pet. (For longer periods I'd recommend letting someone else to take care of the pet)
It's just me who have seen people using these as a permanent solution at all times.
It's wrong to feed a cat, or any domestic animal, this way I.M.H.O
It takes away that special moment between the animal and its owner.
An animal should be fed by it's caretaker/owner directly, and not via some inanimate object.
If one wants to distance themselves from their pets, this is a good way to do it.
It's like an ATM for cats.
Add on to what i said: And I can hand feed my cat without him snatching it. Is that normal?
I can't point at my cat because he will just snuggle my finger, he never bites accept when he gets too excited but he's a good kitten. 😀

Those are Cicada's mating calls or territory warnings. They are unique bugs that are common in Asia. They can grow as large as a child's hand and many kids enjoy catching for fun. (Seriously, we have Cicada nets instead of butterfly nets)
Since they cry the loudest during the hottest days of the summer, in most manga and anime, they are most used to depict a hot summer day.
